Excellent primer for anyone considering a mortgage in 2010 April 13, 2010 HCGuy (St Louis Missouri) This recent book spells out everything you could possibly need to know about borrowing for a mortgage in 2010. It starts with the basics, and defines the lending process and all the options available for a borrower in this new age of lending. The book is very thorough and defines your FICO score and how it can affect your interest rate, and also what you can do to improve your credit rating. The old rules of borrowing from 10 or 20 years ago have changed substantially in the past few years, and Dale Siegel's entertaining yet detailed book can help anyone learn how things are different. There are still a lot of options available for any loan, and she steps through the various loan products, insurance, fees and add on products available in our world's very complicated borrowing procedure, from applying for the original loan through the final closing. The amazing thing about her book is she explains all of this while still keeping the book engaging and interesting. I would highly recommend this book for anyone preparing to enter the world of home ownership and taking on the largest debt of their lives. Even second and third time borrowers can find this book useful since the borrowing process has likely changed significantly from when they acquired their first mortgage.
Informative and not confusing at all for a beginner April 8, 2010 J. Vanderwagen As someone who only had a vague idea of what a mortgage is and how one obtains one, this book is easy to read and provides you with a wealth of understandable information quickly. As a young professional getting ready to start looking at owning her own home, this book answered a lot of questions that I had, as well as one I didn't even know enough to ask. From everything to how much money do I need to have on hand for the down payment to what different types of mortgages exist, I know feel that I have enough information to seriously start looking at owning a home and obtaining a mortgage at a decent rate.
I am definitely going to recommend this book to my friends as well as they begin househunting as well.
Invaluable resource in these confusing times January 8, 2010 Lady Lawyer (New York City) As a real estate attorney with many years of experience, I still find that I learn many new things every time I read Ms. Siegel's words or hear her speak at one of her informative seminars. She has the knowledge, the experience, the straight-talking understanding of what people need to know to navigate this seeming morass of the mortgage industry! Consumers, bank and mortgage professionals, realtors, lawyers.....Everyone can benefit from Ms. Siegel's concise and well-organized treatise. Buy this book!
