This is now my go-to gift for all my friends children who are taking their first plunge into home ownership. I only wish we had had it when we took our first (or second, ..., or tenth) leap!

I just dont find this user friendly. I was hoping it might tell me about some general things I need to check up on yearly with the house and it didnt. Mostly told me to consult a professional for seemingly every problem.

There are so many things that come with owning a new home. Sometimes you might not know which questions to ask until you have a problem on your hands. This book walks new homeowners through house maintenance, insurance, taxes, and fix-it jobs with easy to understand instructions and illustrations. We bought this book for my sister-in-law for her first home, but liked it so much we turned around and bought another copy for ourselves. We have been in our home two years and are still learning things like pouring bleach down the tubes of your AC/Furnace. It keeps the pipes from clogging and causing thousands of dollars of damage to your home (we know that NOW). So anyway...if you or someone you know is a new homeowner, get this!!!

5 out of 5 stars Packed with information I didn't know I needed to know...   October 24, 2007

Sid really hits the nail on the head, so to speak. It's the perfect compliment to the other books he has written like "A Survival Guide for Buying a Home" and "Home Makeovers that Sell".

Being armed with his book eases a lot of the tension from not knowing what to expect. 5 stars!
